What one Republican wants to know about Health Care reform

What I want to know:

I want to know why begging an insurance company bureaucrat to cover some medical treatment is better than petitioning the government for a similar service.

I want to know why indirectly paying for someone’s very expensive visit to an emergency room (through higher insurance premiums and hospital costs) is better than the much less expensive cost of paying for their preventive care in a similar fashion (through the pooled resources of an insurance system that covers all) up front.

I want to know that if I decide to take a job elsewhere, that decision will not be influenced by the degree of wellness I can maintain.

I want to know that if a coworker of mine wants to change jobs, their previous medical histories and current medical conditions will not prevent them from doing so.

I want to know why the burden of covering heath insurance for employees must be borne by someone running a small business.

I want to know the degree of competitive disadvantage our business sector is at given their burden of providing health care for employees (remind me about what exactly was the major financial burden on GM & Chrysler that made their car prices uncompetitive).

I want to know that a child who recovers from a serious medical condition will be able to obtain insurance in the future, regardless of her or his pre-existing conditions.

I want to know why many senior citizens (I am soon to be one as well) are happy with and jealously guard the “socialized medicine”/”government-run” health care plan they have (i.e., Medicare), but feel it is immoral for a similar plan to be developed for others.

I want to know that the homeless guy I pass on the street is getting proper preventative health care, and not broadcasting a TB infection to all passersby.

I want to know that the illegal immigrant population is also receiving proper preventive health care so that they are also not a reservoir of communicable diseases in our country (whether they should be here or not is irrelevant, to whether they should receive such care while they are here, because the larger societal health issue is critical).
